Purolomo, proud of its roots, approaches six decades

Fifty six years of history, effort and persistence have made this a road of successes, allowing the group to earn a prominent place in the domestic market and become one of the leading companies in the country's agribusiness sector. Purolomo is a company with family roots that, thanks to the effort of its people, reaffirms its commitment to Venezuelan homes by covering every stage in turning raw material into protein of high nutritional value, positioning itself today as a trusted brand with high quality products.

This remarkable road began within a family of Galician origin who decided to emigrate to Venezuela. The Somoza Rodríguez brothers arrived in 1967 and started a modest pig farming business, involving their children from an early age and instilling in them a love of work, persistence and commitment to the country.

In 1991, David Somoza Mosquera took a major step by taking over the family business, growing it and making a mark in agribusiness by strategically starting a poultry line, beginning with the light line and table egg production under the Purovo name. Before long the brand expanded its poultry production and opened the heavy line, rearing and processing broiler chickens, with Purolomo and San Blas. That marked a period of strong growth for the company through full vertical integration of its business units, managing the production chain in its entirety, which allows thorough quality control and a guarantee of excellence. At the same time the company entered cattle farming, rearing and producing beef.

Step by step the brand moved into cured meats with chicken mortadella, under the Punta de Monte name as a pioneer in the category and as a protein solution for the Venezuelan consumer. Given its strong reception in the market, the company began to expand into sliced products with cooked ham, smoked shoulder, turkey and chicken ham, luncheon meat, tender and others, registered under one of the group's three main brands: Purolomo, Alibal and Punta de Monte.

Purolomo's growth has been accompanied by the sustained effort of its people, today more than 4,000 employees across more than 25 production sites between farms and plants, contributing 54 per cent of national chicken production, 35 per cent of table eggs, 15 per cent of cured meat manufacturing and 60 per cent of balanced animal feed production. The brand continues to work on a large scale for the country, moving into milling with staple foods through a shareholding in the company La Lucha C.A.

This road has not been free of setbacks, obstacles and stumbles, but also of challenges and demands, and the ability to face them, resolve them and overcome them is what has made possible a journey full of success across almost six decades, providing nutritional solutions both for mass consumption and at industrial level. Purolomo is a company of Venezuelans who believe in the country and work with commitment, respect, honesty and responsibility to take food from the field to the table of Venezuelan homes.
